Why should you sponsor a student to attend WAS?
There are several answers, but the most important is this is your opportunity to change a life. Maybe by doing so you will change the world. Below are just some of the things that happen when a student attends the World Affairs Seminar:
- Preconceptions about the world are challenged.
- Participants are empowered; they gain an outlet to participate in the world.
- Horizons are expanded as students become aware of their role as a world citizen.
- Participants engage in interaction and dialogue with foreign scholars, peers and experts.
- World views are changed as they "wear others’ shoes."
- In becoming good world citizens they become better members of their community.
- Participants learn the skills to become a leader.
- World Affairs Seminar participants have an edge on their college and job applications.
- WAS serves as a gateway for students to go and do bigger things:
- Travel to Africa, South America to teach English
- Work for the United Nations, World Bank
- Become Rotary and Lions members
- Head a community outreach program
